Dev & Smruti Khare

Well, this is a bio about both of us (and no, I don't have a multi-personality schizophrenic disorder). Smruti works in the non-profit industry in San Francisco. Dev works in the hi-tech industry.

Now that we both are no longer working, the real interesting info is why this trip, and why now. Both Dev and I love to travel and have done so individually and with friends previous to getting married. As we discussed where we would like to travel together, the list quickly grew to include many destinations-all of them exciting. It became clear that we would have to plan multiple trips over the coming years to reach all of these places or we could take the time to travel all of these places.

We made our decision to take a round the world trip in about half an hour.

We also decided that as part of this trip we wanted to spend some time volunteering at various places in the world where we could help children. After much thought, we decided to focus on India as we had some conections there and language wouldn't be a barrier. Another chance to volunteer came after the tsunami. We canceled the SE Asia leg of the trip and spend some time in Tamil Nadu helping out in the areas hardest hit by the tsunami. What we learned in the process about how non-profits work and the reality of volunteering on the ground when a disaster hits was an education in and of itself.
